Rahul Chandnani

Postdoctoral Fellow, Root-Soil-Microbial Interactions

Phone: 306-966-3715

Rahul Chandnani is a member of the Root-Soil-Microbial Interactions group at GIFS supervised by Canada Excellence Research Chair Dr. Leon Kochian in 2018.
He received his Bachelors Degree in Agricultural Sciences with a major in Plant Breeding and Genetics from Punjab Agricultural University, India in 2009. He was awarded a PhD in Agronomy and Crop Sciences from the University of Georgia, USA in 2017. During his PhD, his research focused on the molecular dissection of fiber quality and plant architectural traits in cotton and investigated transmission genetics in cotton.
Rahul’s research at GIFS is focused on approaches from plant molecular genetics, genomics and physiology. His research employs non-invasive high throughput phenotyping technologies to study root architecture systems of crop plants. Furthermore, he is interested in identification of diagnostic genetic markers associated with genes or genomic regions that are responsible for specific root architectures. His research aims to discover phenotypic and genomic tools (i.e. genetic markers) that can be used by breeders to increase crop production and contribute to global food security.
