Laura-Sophia Ruppert

Visiting Research Student, Seed and Development Biology

Laura came to Saskatoon from Germany to find out whether the rumours about the Canadian winter are true and if yes, is biological life even possible on this side of the world?

She studies at the University of Heidelberg where she received her B.Sc. in Biosciences (Ecotoxicology). Laura’s current research is part of the Master Program for Molecular Biosciences with specialization in Evolution and Ecology.

Laura is specifically interested in plant ecology and worked on plant stress reactions to biotic and abiotic stimulation and evolutionary distribution patterns at the Centre for Organismal Studies (COS) Heidelberg.

Currently, Laura is conducting her Master Thesis under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Marcus Koch in collaboration with the Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS) with Dr. Tim Sharbel and Dr. Martin Mau. Laura will perform micro-grafting in sexual and apomictic Boechera lines to test for the mobility and phenotypic effects of miRNAs expressed by the male-apomeiosis related UPGRADE2 gene.
