Brendan grew up in New South Wales and Victoria, Australia, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and a Bachelor of Science (Hons) at La Trobe University, Melbourne.

He has worked as a research assistant and ecological consultant in South-East Australia, where he specialized in the conservation of sub-alpine and box-ironbark woodland ecosystems, and as a field research technician with Environment Canada and the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan (U of S).

Brendan joined GIFS and the U of S College of Agriculture and Bioresources in 2017 as a technician and, later, graduate student, studying plant physiology and the root microbiome under the supervision of Dr. Kochian.

At GIFS, Brendan is investigating the relationship between fungal symbionts, root development and stress tolerance in plants.
